César Millán llegó a Estados Unidos con los bolsillos vacíos. Empezó a trabajar a principios de la década de 1990 en un salón de belleza canino de San Diego. Ahí se ganó la reputación de trabajar con casos difíciles, ya que podía controlar a cualquier perro. Rápidamente se dio cuenta de que podía manejar incluso a los más agresivos. Un tiempo después se trasladó a vivir al norte de Los Ángeles. Su futuro como estrella de la televisión estaba sólo a un paso. Desde el año 2004 presenta en la televisión americana Dog Whisperer –programa que Cuatro emite actualmente durante las mañanas de los sábados y domingos-. Además, Millán es autor de numerosos libros sobre el tema.
